Maheshwari weaving, named after the town of Maheshwar, was traditionally used for saris, turbans, dhotis, and other fabrics. The weavers, a mix of artisans from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, created cotton-silk fabrics with striped borders and motifs. While the cluster is still known for its exquisite saris, it has expanded to various garments, attracting designers worldwide. The fabric’s translucency and colorful borders make it ideal for innovative designs. Originally woven with cotton yarns, the introduction of mulberry silk has led to fabrics being made from both cotton and silk today.
