A handmade bag in appliqué work is a pouch used as a letterbox in ancient times.
Appliqué is an intricate sewing technique popular in Gujarat. It is decorative hand needlework in which different color and size fragments of fabric are stitched into a larger piece to create a design or pattern. Divided into two parts the bag has three divisions to keep letters on one side.
Handmade from red and white fabrics it has angular and abstract patterns on both the ends of the pouch.
Appliqué is used mainly for festive occasions but it is deeply embedded in the lives of many Agro-pastoral communities.
