The word saree is described in Sanskrit as‘ Shati' which means 'strip of cloth’. Saree is a women’s garment from the Indian subcontinent, that is typically wrapped around the waist, with one end draped over the shoulder, baring the midriff.
Once which was worn only by those belonging to royal and noble families, Patola is a double ikat woven sari made from silk. To create the design both the warp and weft threads are tied to dying the pattern as decided. The method of dyeing the warp and weft before weaving is known as double ikat. Motifs like flowers, parrots, elephants, and geometrical styles are used by strategically tying the dyed threads on the handloom.
