Product Description: The unique Toda houses are native to the state of Tamil Nadu. These are curious looking, rectangular houses with bent archway roofs that reach down to the ground. They are built with bamboo and fastened with rattan (a kind of wicker) to help protect the inhabitants from heavy winds, rainfall and wild animals. The front of the Toda houses are decorated with Toda art form, a rock mural painting. These houses are centuries old and are mainly used by tribes living in the Nilgiris region in Tamilnadu. With India modernizing at a very rapid pace, you will rarely find Toda houses in the State. |
