Hand embroidered blouse, Kanjari, Kutch (Gujarat) Soof - 1605
Hand embroidered blouse, Kanjari, Kutch (Gujarat)
Dimensions – 37 X 28 CM
Hand-woven using Soof style embroidery patterns this is a short-sleeved, torso length backless blouse. Only the upper fragment of the blouse with angular patterns is visible.
The origin of Soof hand embroidery is mysterious. Women of the Sodha, Rajput, and Meghwal communities who have migrated from Sindh i.e present-day Pakistan practice this traditional craft.
Soof artisans work on the reverse side of the cloth. A Soof artisan first visualizes the whole design and then works it out geometrically on the reverse side. Angular patterns are precisely created with the help of stitches taken after calculating the warp and weft threads.
