The Meghwals- leather artisans of Kutch and Rajasthan practice an artistic leathercraft. The trade was kept alive in the past, by a partnership with nomadic Maldhari cattle herders. When a Maldhari owned cattle died, the Meghwals tanned the raw hides into leather. Kutchi leather was so well treated and durable that it could hold water. These chappals- slip-ons have been crafted and finely embroidered in unique designs with fine finishing.
